The UK Government is set to introduce new targets for reducing tiny particles in the air known as ‘PM 2.5s’. The UK currently falls short of WHO recommended limits of PM 2.5s, which are produced by vehicle engines and known to damage the lungs and heart.

Whilst investment into alternative fuel power will have a greater long-term impact, TRL calls for increased focus on immediate short-term actions such as wider uptake of Clean Air Zones (CAZs) and Low Emission Zones (LEZs).

TRL has worked on research based on what is required to deliver substantial air quality improvements across highly congested areas of London where there had previously been dangerous levels of air pollution.
