Jade Developments team driver Luke Pinder had a weekend of mixed emotions at Silverstone over the weekend. The City Group and Freightlink supported driver suffered badly in qualifying from traffic issues from the almost 50 Ginettas on the track. On most quick laps he encountered traffic and had to sit behind slower cars. Eventually qualifying 12thPinder was hoping to move forward in race 1. As in previous races, he did not disappoint and by the finish had overtaken 6 cars to move up to a fantastic sixth. 
 
The following day, race 2 was scheduled for a 9.35 start, however, because of some judicial matters it was decided that race 2 would be postponed until later in the day. Starting from 6th Pinder again moved forward to as high as 4th before a spin saw him relegated to 13th. Determined to get back to the sharp end of the massive 48 car field, Pinder charged through to end up with a superb 7th. Surely there can be nobody in British racing that has overtaken so many cars this season. With time marching towards the 6.00pm curfew, the teams turned the cars around very quickly and the cars were back on the grid within 30 minutes. Race 3 was the part reversed grid race and because of his 7th position in race 2 Pinder lined up on the second row in P4. At the start, the pole sitter jumped the start, P2 and P3 went with him. By the exit of the first corner, Pinder had caught and passed both of them and set about chasing down the leader.  
 
Championship leader Lewis Brown, who had started in P10, followed Luke through and before long both had caught and passed the early leader. What ensued next was a fantastic battle with both Pinder and Brown cleanly overtaking each other several times a lap until the 6.00pm curfew came into play. At the checkered flag, Pinder led over line from Brown but Pinder was handed a 10 second penalty for “being out of position” at the start. Because of the close nature of the racing and the shortened race, Pinder officially finished 12th despite leading over the line. 
 
A desperately disappointed Pinder explained that because everything was so hot after the first race, the clutch was “dragging” so that even when the clutch was fully depressed the car moved forward as soon as the foot brake was released. Obviously, this was not apparent until he went to set the revs just before the start. As soon as the car moved “only about an inch and still within the grid box”, Pinder had to come off the throttle and back onto the brake. At which point the lights went out and the race was live. “I was very lucky not to stall on the line, with 40 cars behind me, that would not have ended well. Anyway, while I don’t get the points or the trophy for the win, I did cross the line first and we now know that we have the pace to win again so bring on Zandvoort in July”.
